Junior Group Leader
Free University of Brussels
Brussels, BEPanagiotis (Takis) Karras is a junior group leader at the Free University of Brussels (ULB), where his research focuses on nongenetic mechanisms driving cancer evolution. He holds a diploma in Biological Applications and Technologies and an MSc in Biotechnology from the University of Ioannina, Greece. He earned his PhD from the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) in Madrid, where he joined the Melanoma Group under the mentorship of Dr. Marisol Soengas. During his doctoral studies, he built expertise across several domains, including mouse genetics, in vitro methodologies, multi-omics technologies, and in silico analysis. Following his PhD, he pursued postdoctoral research at the VIB-Center for Cancer Biology in Belgium, working in the lab of Dr. Jean-Christophe Marine. His work there explored cellular plasticity in melanoma ecosystems, investigating how different cell states drive tumor growth and metastasis. His novel approaches address key questions related to cancer cell evolution and metastasis.
