Pavel Hanc, PhD
Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine
Lisbon, PortugalPavel Hanc is a Group Leader at the Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine. He received his Ph.D. in immunology at the Francis Crick Institute in London under the mentorship of Dr. Caetano Reis e Sousa, investigating the properties of the dendritic cell receptor DNGR-1 and its interaction with F-actin. Following his postdoctoral training in Dr. Ulrich von Andrian’s laboratory at Harvard Medical School in Boston, where he investigated the role of nociceptors in the control of dendritic cell functions, Pavel established the Peripheral Neuroimmunology Laboratory at GIMM. By deciphering the underlying molecular mechanisms and revealing novel paradigms of neuroimmune communication, the lab aims to define the logic by which sensory neurons instruct immune responses in various contexts, including inflammation and cancer.
